Vitamin C is also an antioxidant. It fights damages caused by free radicals, smoke or radiation. The body does not make or store vitamin C and that is why it is important to include good sources of vitamin C in diet. Vitamin C helps in wound healing, it helps making collagen which is a part of skin,blood vessels,ligaments, tendons etc, it helps absorption of iron. That is why a deficiency of vitamin C causes bleeding gums, anemia and loose teeth called scurvy. Foods rich in vitamin C are oranges, lemon, lime, strawberries, green peppers, broccoli, kiwis, tomatoes etc.
Recommended Daily AllowanceAdults- women- 75mg and men 90mg. Pregnant and breastfeeding women require more per day.
